Plein Air, a French term meaning “in the open air,” refers to a style of painting in which artists work entirely outdoors, capturing the natural light and atmosphere of the scene before them. This approach rose to prominence in the 19th century with the introduction of paint in tubes, which made it far easier for artists to venture outside with their materials. Today, Plein Air painting remains a beloved practice worldwide. In keeping with this tradition, all artwork must be created on-site and completed fully outdoors at the location depicted.
